Question One: What are the three types edits that we have learned and in what order did we complete these edits for the Frame within a Frame project? Why do we edit photographs in this order?:
The three edits are: 1)levels and curves(exposure), 2)color balance and photo filter(lighting), and 3)vignetting. Levels comes first because it allows us to see the histogram and asses the exposure of the photo. Curves is also used to adjust the exposure. Next you can use color balance to change the white balance of the photo. Photo filter can be used to add warming or cooling colors to the photo. Last, you use vignetting to draw attention to the center of the center of the page.

Question Two: What are the “quick keys” for: Move Tool, Crop Tool, Brush Tool, Text Tool, and Mask Mode. We did not go over the “quick keys” for Mask Mode in class, find the answer through your own research.

Move Tool=V

Crop Tool=C

Brush Tool= B

Text Tool=T

Mask Mode=Q

Question Three: What are the “short-cuts” for Select-All, Inverse-Selection and Deselect-Selection. (Ctrl + ?, if you work on a PC, or Command + ?, if you work on a Mac.)

Select All-Ctrl +A

Inverse Selection- Ctrl + Shift + I

Deselect- Selection- Ctrl +D

Question Four: Write all the steps necessary to create vignetting. Do not forget to write what Brush Mode we use, and what percentage of opacity, hardness and flow we use to paint the mask.
1- Press B and use the Brush tool
2-Press Q and use the quick mask tool
3-Change the master diameter so that the blush covers almost the entire center of the photo.
4-Change the hardness to 0%
5-Make sure that the mode is normal
6- Keep the percentage of Opacity and the flow at 100.

Question Five: When you open a JPEG in Photoshop, how many layers do you start with, and what are they / is it called?

You start with one layer called background.

Question Six: Which of these buttons on your Layers palette do you press to make a new edit layer (curves, levels, color balance, etc.)? Which of these buttons do you use to delete a layer?

layersoptions

The black and white cookie button(in middle of bar) is the button use to make a new edit. The trash can is used to to delete a layer(furthest to right).

Question Seven: How do you “turn off” a layer / make it invisible?

You press the eye shaped symbol next to the edit to make it invisible.

Question Eight (Extra Credit): Find a poorly Photoshopped image on the web a la the NYT article we read in class. Post it to your blog, and explain what went wrong.

This photo is poorly photo shopped because, you can clearly see the woman has a 8 inch waist. She is also in an unnatural position with nothing underneath her to support her.

  1. Q1: "2)color balance and photo filter(lighting)" - - should be "2) color balance and photo filter (white balance)"

Q1: "Levels comes first because it allows us to see the histogram and asses the exposure of the photo." - - very good!

    Very good. Scary Photoshop disaster!
